The heat is on! It’s a summertime affair; the sun and fun are in the air. It’s time to hit the beach or chill by the pool. However, with all that excitement spent under the sun, sometimes we forget to check up on our skin. Whether we are going to the beach, work, or strolling through a park, we must always be proactive when it comes to skincare. Sunburns are never fun.
Here are some tips to help achieve and maintain glowing, protected and healthy skin:
Moisturize Anywhere Anytime
Lather on that lotion and cream to keep your skin soft, smooth and feeling refreshed. By the time you start feeling thirsty, your skin is already drying out and if you don’t do anything about it, the shedding, cracking and peeling begins. To prevent this, use a moisturizer on your body and face. Apply in the morning, after showering, after going to the beach, before going outside, before going to bed. You could even take a step further and bring a tiny bottle of moisturizer with you to reapply throughout the day.
Sun Protection Factor (SPF)
Protect yourself. That’s what all those products labeled with SPF were made for. Even if you’re going on a quick errand and the sun is blazing, you just might get burned. SPF 15 is the generic rating but if you can find higher numbers the better. Even if you want to get a tan, please use it, crispy peeling skin isn’t flattering. Apply and reapply for continued exposure every 2 hours on your body, your face and don’t forget your lips! Yes, even lips can get sunburn too so keep that pout pretty with some lip balm containing SPF.
Water is your best friend, your soulmate, your better half, well technically more than half since it makes up 50-65% of your body but you get the point. No matter what the season is always, always drink water. Moisturizer takes care of the skin on the outside but water takes care of everything in the inside. Bring a bottle with you and refill it throughout the day. If you get bored of water then try adding some fruits to infuse flavor into your water or just eat the fruits. Lemons, oranges, cucumbers, watermelons, try out different fruits mix them up and find what you like.
Top off your coverage by wearing a hat, sunglasses or even an umbrella. This would offer additional protection between your skin and the sun. Look for products that specifically say they provide UV protection. This will help block the harmful rays of the sun.
